Hello!

Hello! Thank you for visiting ‘Threads from my Sewing Room!’, please, make yourself comfortable, grab a biscuit and have a nose around...

I have always been interested in sewing, I have very clear memories of being a child and raiding my mum’s wicker sewing box, which was fully lined with a delicate floral print Cath Kidston could only dream of! It was here that I learnt about thimbles, poppers, threads and tomato shaped pincushions.

From this enchanting place my early creations emerged, such as cream slipper socks with a wooden heel and fluorescent (homemade) wool pompoms adorning the toes, and the Frankenstein-esque era of reincarnating pink poodles, scruffy dogs and panthers lovingly recreated from an old pair of grey school tights and wadding – my sister was especially gracious upon receiving these! Barbie was however undoubtedly the greatest beneficiary of my crafty cravings – even to this day I think she was proud of the trousers I made her, which were beautifully knitted in a subtle, elegant shade of ‘lime’ (orders on a postcard).

In the past year or so, I have rediscovered my love of this wonderful art, and for my birthday last year, I was bought my first sewing machine – and wow has my love grown and grown! Throughout my love affair, I have been – and continue to be – truly inspired by some of the great sewing blogs on the internet, I am frequently blown away by their writers’ creativity and passion (there are some seriously talented stitchy bloggers out there!)

So this is where we come to; my first blog. I hope to help bring other people into the wonderful world of cotton, beads, bows and buttons! I will walk and talk through my discoveries, successes and mistakes (which are absolutely the best way to learn!!) and will frequently to point you in the direction of some really talented people.

I look forward to meeting you –
- Emily
